The Molecular Genetics Core is a service core designed to help the diabetes research community through expert service and advice in molecular techniques. The Molecular and Genetics Core (MGC) was created in 1996 and has evolved to provide a wide variety of services in molecular biology, with specialty in quantitative real-time PCR. The Core works with the needs of investigators to develop new techniques, modify existing ones, create project designs, carry out standard molecular biology procedures, train personnel, and provide information and resources. Common services include quantitation of mRNA expression, genotyping, cloning of genes, isolation of DNA and RNA, sequencing, plasmid production, and training in quantitative real-time PCR.
