Dr. Walker has been selected as the first Cheryl M. Scott-Group Health Cooperative Endowed Professor because of his expertise in clinical systems management, quality and patient safety improvement, physician leadership, and behavioral medicine. In addition to this new appointment, Dr. Walker holds the position of Medical Director for the UW Medical Center and Associate Dean of the UW School of Medicine. He also holds the rank of professor in the UW School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry. In addition to his medical credentials, Dr. Walker is a graduate of the UW Department of Health Services Certificate Program in Medical Management and Executive MHA Program.
As Medical Director for the UW Medical Center, Dr. Walker has focused on the development of energetic and relationship-centered leadership within a broad-based and diverse medical staff. He has transformed quality structures for the hospital by promoting high-performing partnerships between physicians, nurses, and administrators. He is also a nationally recognized leader in the development of innovative physician leadership education methods that have increased physician performance and effectiveness.
As the Cheryl M. Scott-Group Health Cooperative Endowed Professor, Dr. Walker will co-direct the Certificate Program in Medical Management and lead the development and integration of three key areas within the UW MHA curricula:

Announcing the Cheryl M. Scott-Group Health Cooperative Endowed Professor of Health Administration
The University of Washington Department of Health Services and Master of Health Administration Program is proud to announce the appointment of Edward A. Walker, MD, MHA, as the first Cheryl M. Scott-Group Health Cooperative Endowed Professor of Health Administration. The Cheryl M. Scott-Group Health Cooperative Endowed Professorship was established to honor Ms. Scott’s 25 years of service to both Group Health Cooperative and the UW. She served as President and CEO for Group Health Cooperative from 1997 to 2004, and now holds the position of Chief Operating Officer for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She received her MHA from the UW in 1977, and has been a member of the faculty since 1992.Dr. Walker has been selected as the first Cheryl M. - Strengthening clinical executive leadership in the region and nationally
