More Student Profiles . . .
After being displaced by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Tulane University sent me a list of 36 schools willing to take MHA students on a temporary basis. I chose the University of Washington MHA Program because it started later than most of the other schools, giving me more time to replenish my everyday living supplies that had been destroyed by the hurricane. Although my decision was based on practicality, choosing to attend UW's program was the best choice I could have ever made. I was immediately impressed by the MHA Program's faculty and staff and by the generosity offered by UW and citizens of Seattle. I was so impressed that I decided to complete my degree at UW. I credit my choice to Will Welton, MHA Program Director, who was incredibly understanding of my unique situation and was willing to vouch for the level of academic performance I had demonstrated. I am so thankful for the education I received here and the wonderful people I met along the way.
What was your undergraduate major?
I received my BS in Zoology from Louisiana State University in 2000.
What work experience did you have before coming to the MHA Program?
I was a lab manager and study coordinator at a research facility in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
What do you feel are the strengths of the MHA Program?
The MHA Program at the University of Washington prepares students to be progressive, innovative leaders in health care.
Upon her graduation in June 2007, Cheryl became Program Coordinator for Pediatric Palliative Care at Seattle Children's Hospital in Seattle, WA.
