The opportunity to obtain an advanced degree from the University of Washington, a prestigious institution.
How would you describe your educational background?
My previous education had a business administration focus.
What is your professional background?
Human resources management.
Are there any outstanding or unique experiences that you would like to share with regard to the Executive MHA Program?
Approximately 7 months into the Executive MHA Program, my administrator saw the personal and professional growth in me. He realized that I had no clinical management experience and challenged me with the opportunity of managing a clinical department, cardiopulmonary services. Being tasked with this challenge is gratifying both personally and professionally. Having my administrator acknowledge my personal growth and need for professional growth was a unique experience for me and has proven to be a rewarding opportunity.
What do you feel are the strengths of the Executive MHA Program?
The faculty.
What goals do you plan to pursue in health administration?
One of my major goals is to develop an in-depth knowledge of how the health care system operates and breathes, from managing the personnel, the organization, and its finances to understanding policy development and the advocacy process. I originally wanted to become a woman in a “c-suite” position in health care and now I’m leaning more towards health care policy/public affairs.
Is there anything else you would like to share about your experiences here?
I feel very fortunate to have the diverse knowledge present within my cohort. This cohort has many years of knowledge, both clinical and administrative, that lends to an amazing learning environment. Not only are we learning together, we are growing together for the common goal of creating a healthier and stronger health care system.
