North Hawaii Community Hospital Names Alumnus John White as Chief Executive Officer

In February, the Board of Directors of North Hawaii Community Hospital (NHCH) unanimously selected UW Executive MHA alumnus John White as their next Chief Executive Officer, effective April 15, 2009.

"Finding the right CEO to lead our hospital has been a top goal for the new Board. We were committed to hiring a leader who embraces the mission of the hospital and can help us re-establish a trusting and open relationship with the staff, the physicians, and the overall community," stated Bob Momsen, President of the Board. Momsen continued, "After an exhaustive interview process of the candidates by the Board of Directors, the medical staff, the management team and community leaders, the Board is very confident that we have identified the right person to lead NHCH."

Prior to this appointment, White was CEO of Samaritan Healthcare, a 50-bed acute care hospital in eastern Washington State. Before joining Samaritan in 2004, White spent ten years as the CEO of Newport Community Hospital, a 24-bed acute care facility in Newport, Washington. White graduated from Washington State University with a BA in Business Administration and in 2006 graduated from the University of Washington Executive Master of Health Administration (MHA) Program.

During his tenure at Samaritan, White led a turnaround in both quality ratings and financial results. Today, Samaritan enjoys some of the highest quality ratings on any hospital in Washington State and is now producing over a 3% operating margin. In addition to serving as the CEO of Samaritan Healthcare, White has held leadership roles in the Washington State Hospital Association and has been an effective advocate for rural hospitals and physicians at both the state and Federal level.

"I'm very honored to have been selected as North Hawaii Community Hospital's next CEO. I've followed the hospital for many years and look forward to working with staff and physicians committed to healing both body and soul," stated White.

North Hawaii Community Hospital, which was ranked as the number one hospital in Hawaii and among the top ten percent of hospitals in the nation among all hospitals reporting in the 2007 Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, is a 40-bed, full-service, acute-care medical center located in Waimea on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is ranked among the top five-percent of hospitals in the entire United States that patients would recommend. The community-owned, non-profit hospital is managed by Quorum Health Resources. It opened in May 1996 and serves the residents and visitors of the Big Island. Visit www.NHCH.com for more information.
