UW Executive MHA Student Receives Leadership Award

UW Executive MHA student, Jo-Ellen Callahan, is the 2009 Group Health Cooperative (GHC) recipient of the Carla A. Bush Endowed Fund for Inspired Delivery System Leadership award. This award honors Carla Bush's personal commitment to leadership development, which put her in the forefront of GHC's efforts to transform health care. The award was established to support the advancement of senior operations leaders in the GHC delivery system.

Jo-Ellen Callahan is the GHC Central Campus Radiology Services Manager. She was nominated by the entire Consultative Specialty Services leadership team, who saw inspired leadership in the way Jo-Ellen led the Radiology Services line in reducing long scheduling delays for patients needing ultrasound services. She also led the process of improving HEDIS breast cancer screening performance, increasing the percentage of scheduled patients from 41% in May 2009 to 83% in October 2009. According to President and Chief Medical Executive for Group Health Permanente, Michael Soman, MD, "Jo-Ellen's leadership inspired staff across six locations in the organization to embrace a new way of working that improved the experience of [GHC] patients and staff."

Receiving the Carla A. Bush Endowed Fund for Inspired Delivery System Leadership award includes a grant from the Group Health Foundation, which Jo-Ellen will use towards her education in the UW Executive MHA Program.
