MHA Advantages

Challenges and Opportunities for the MHA Graduate

Graduates of the University of Washington Master of Health Administration Program are expected to be immediately effective, while continuously creating, building, and managing our nation's health delivery system. Throughout their careers, graduates will assume progressively more influential leadership roles within the nation's health system. These roles include:

  • junior, mid-level, and senior management
  • business development and project management
  • process management and improvement
  • clinical program evaluation and quality management
  • policy development, analysis, and evaluation

Mentor Program

To develop a bridge between the academic and the practical world, students entering the MHA Program select a mentor from interested and supportive members of the administrative health care or business community.

Internship Program

During the summer between the two academic years, you have the opportunity to work in a full-time salaried internship position in a health services organization "under the wing" of a member of that organization who serves as your preceptor.

Academic Advising

Students are encouraged to meet with program advisers from the MHA faculty, who are knowledgeable about the curriculum requirements and course offerings. The purpose of program/curriculum advising is to assist students in planning and completing individual academic plans.

Career Development

The MHA Program provides multiple opportunities for career exploration through its Career Development Program. In the first two quarters, a three-day program orientation with panel discussions led by local health care professionals is followed by several career introduction activities. These activities include informal opportunities to hear local alumni describe their career paths and the choices they made.
