On class days, the facility will be open and staffed half an hour before class starts until half an hour after class ends.
Instructors: For coordination of assistance with audio visual equipment or other classroom needs, please submit requests/inquiries at least a couple days in advance. Contact Don (weekdays) or Tom (evenings and Saturday) for an appointment if you need access to the facility on non-class days.
Parking
During the weekday, students may park in any lot marked for UW or not marked at all. Typically, more parking spots are available on the SW side of the building. After 5:00pm, and all day Saturday, parking is permitted in any available space.
Access for Persons with Disabilities
The SW entrance to the building and the classroom are wheelchair accessible. Parking is available directly in front of the SW entrance. There are two spaces marked for handicapped parking only.
Emergencies
If a loud alarm sounds, it will be a fire alarm. Leave the classroom and go outside by means of the nearest exit. Emergency exits are at the reception desk area and at the rear end of the long hall, by Room 140. There are green EXIT signs throughout the building. The last person leaving a room should shut the door.
A First Aid kit is available at the reception desk.
If there are any emergency communications, they will be at all of these locations:
- Main UW info line, 206-547-INFO
- Main UW PCE info recording at 206-543-2320 (option 8 on menu)
- Professional and Continuing Education web site
In case of snow restrictions, this facility will follow the policy of the main UW campus.
Use the reception desk number listed above as the contact number for family members. If there is an emergency, the receptionist will relay a message from this phone to you in your classroom. Please restrict this to emergency communications.
Computer Usage / Internet Access
UW PCE requests that we not download software to UW PCE computers, either from the Internet or from our own disks. Special arrangements can be made for class projects and demonstrations. All classroom computers have PowerPoint and an Internet connection, displayable on a large projection screen. Personal laptops can be connected to the projectors.
Our designated classroom in the UW PCE facility has individual laptop hookup capability at each student seat. Students may also use the two carrels near the reception area for internet access during breaks and lunch or the wireless access; the encryption key is available at the reception desk. Likewise, students may use the computer lab if it is not being used for a course. Please check the schedule with the reception desk.
Food: On-site and Off-site
A refrigerator and cabinets are available for students' use in the primary classroom. Within the cabinets you should find a coffee pot, tea/hot pot, and thermos.
Participants may also use the kitchen microwave and tables/chairs during lunch. Hot water for tea is available in the kitchen (but please don't use the facility coffee maker).
Information regarding restaurants within walking distance is available on the bulletin board in the kitchen.
If you have trouble with the vending machines, or finding any of the items mentioned above, see the front desk staff / facility manager.
We ask that you clear out any perishables from the refrigerator at the end of each three-day session. Non-perishables may be kept between sessions in the cabinet.
If you have any questions, contact Tom Edgar (contact information above) or the MHA Program (mhap@u.washington.edu).
Miscellaneous
Students may use the kitchen, hallway seating areas, and empty classrooms (check with the reception desk first) for breakout sessions. The conference room is not available on Saturdays, but is OK the other days.
Lost and found items are kept at the reception desk. Inquire there, or at 425-586-2200, if you have lost something.
