Research:
Dr. Corey obtained his M.D. from the University of Michigan. In addition to his affiliation with the Department of Microbiology, he is head of the Division of Virology within the Department of Laboratory Medicine and head of the Program in Infectious Diseases at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
Opportunities for research projects in herpesviruses (HSV, CMV, and HHV-8), HIV and Hepatitis C are available. Both laboratory-based studies of transitional research studies are available. Laboratory-based projects include studies of pathogenesis of T Cell immune responses to HSV among immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients, studies of CMV infection among bone marrow transplant patients and studies of the virology and immunology of Kaposi's sarcoma associated herpes virus. The HSV program is directed at defining the role HSV specific T cells play in viral reactivation and disease severity and a program to develop a T cell based HSV-2 vaccine is underway.
