Methylosarcina lacus, sp. nov.
- Gram-negative non-motile oval rods, form “holdfast”-like structures (HF), possess Type I intracytoplasmic membranes (ICM)
- Assimilates formaldehyde via the ribulose monophosphate pathway (RuMP)
- The major fatty acids are C16:1w8c and C16:1w5c
- The DNA G+C content is 53.3 mol %
- This bacterium belongs to the betta proteobacteria and is closely related to the Methylosarcina (96% 16S rDNA sequence similarity)
- The values of DNA-DNA homology between the isolates
and Methylosarcina species are 17-25%
