survey course and fall hazards mitigation studio – 2003
A
two hazards mitigation course series is being offered in 2003. The series begins with a hazards mitigation
survey course and follows with a fall studio.
The survey course will help structure the studio and students will be
encouraged to take the complete series.
However, the survey course is not a requirement for enrolling in the
fall course.
Spring
Quarter –
Toward Community Sustainability through Hazards Mitigation
Objectives:
- Gain an applied
knowledge of the principles of emergency management with hazards
mitigation as the corner stone
- Have an opportunity to
apply this knowledge to real world problems. Community for the 2003 will
include Clark County and the City of Redmond.
- Identify opportunities
to integrate risk reduction concepts into more traditional planning tools.
(Comprehensive Plan, Shoreline Management Act, Endangered Special
Legislation.
- Correct deficiencies or
define scopes of work and work products for subsequent studio.
Fall
Quarter –
Applying the Principles of Hazards Mitigation Studio.
Objectives:
- Apply principles
learned during the survey course to a Washington ton Community,
- Write a Hazards
Mitigation Plan.
- Identify capabilities of following
sectors and determine ways to implement hazards mitigation initiative. .
- Government (Fire,
police, public works, communications)
- Schools (Public and private)
- Businesses
- Faith based Community
- Non-Profit
- Neighborhood
organizations
- Specific
representatives form Washington volunteers active in disasters.
