After acceptance

Once an essay or a review has been accepted by the MLQ Editor, it must be prepared for the final production process and copyediting by our partners at Duke University Press. Performing this work yourself reduces the chances of errors being introduced to your text, as well as reducing publication costs. To prepare your submission for this next phase, we would greatly appreciate your help in the following:

1.

Doublecheck your essay, paying particular attention to references, publication dates, page numbers, name spellings, and any use of languages other than English. To the extent possible, recheck all quotations.

2. Make any textual changes agreed upon with the Editor and reader(s) and make sure the essay conforms to the MLQ style guide.

3.

Prepare an electronic copy of your essay and save it as "yourname_essay.doc" or "yourname_review.doc."

  a. Separate footnotes into a separate document (a Duke production requirement). Save the document as "yourname_notes.doc".

  b.
    •  Prepare a brief biographical note (see examples); save the file as "yourname_bio.doc".

For a review, make sure the header conforms to the style guide and your name and university affiliation are printed in the bottom right.

4. Fill out the Author Intake form. This form asks for travel dates and contact information to enable Duke to send the proofs to you directly in a timely fashion. Usually proofs have only a 1-2 week turnaround.

5. Read and sign the Publishing Contract. We also recommend that you make a copy for your own records.

6.
