Molecular Targets in Cancer Therapy
MOLMED 583, 1.5 credits

This course examines how molecular targets for cancer therapies are discovered and validated. Topics to be covered include disease mechanisms, need for new therapeutics, how small molecule and antibody therapeutics are identified and developed, and how preclinical studies are used to establish safety and efficacy

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • identify possible targets for development of a new cancer therapeutic targets, based on current literature
  • outline the steps in basic research necessary to develop and validate a potential new, molecularly targeted cancer therapy
  • estimate personal and societal impact of an effective drug
