Welcome to the Microsoft Developers Network Academic Alliance Site for the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) at the University of Washington. As a member of the msdn academic alliance, students enrolled in courses offered by the department are eligible to download Microsoft development software at no charge. Students enrolled in selected Information Systems, Operations Management, or Quantitative Methods courses are eligible. The list of eligible students is updated each quarter. Students in ISOM courses during the current quarter will be added or remain on the eligibility list. Any student on the list from the prior quarter and not on the list for the current quarter will be removed from the list. You may download one copy of each software title. You will need access to a high-speed Internet connection (the files are large) and also access to a CD-R (CD-Recordable) or a CD-RW (CD-Read/Write) drive to make your installation CDs. Note that most computers in campus labs include either CD-R or CD-RW drives. The following gives you a brief summary of the process associated with setting up an account for your use. Please read it carefully and also please go to the actual "store" and read the information there too. |

Note 1: Software download. The download process is a two-step process. First a small program (an "exe" file) is downloaded. This file is about 400 kilobytes in length. If you specify "Open" in the File Download dialog box, the "exe" is first downloaded and then starts to run automatically. You will notice that a second dialog appears automatically that allows you to continue the download. This is the recommended approach to take. However, if you specify "Save" instead of "Open", the "exe" file will be downloaded and saved on the disk where you specify it should be saved. You will then have to run this "exe" file after the download completes by double-clicking on it. The program will start running and allow you to continue the download. |
|
| Note 2: ISO Images. ISO images require that you create a CD or DVD from the images. If the downloaded file has an "iso" extension, you need to use special software to burn the CD or DVD. Please click here to get more details. |
