UW Materials Science and Engineering is fortunate to have such an enthusiastic and engaged group of learners, including approximately 60 graduate and 80 undergraduate students. Both groups have a high percentage of underrepresented minorities, women, and international students, and many students play an active role in professional societies, outreach activities, student recruitment and training, and other departmental activities.

The faculty of the MSE Department includes some of the most highly qualified and well-respected individuals in our field, representing broad professional expertise and research interests. The department's core faculty of 10 are augmented by 4 research faculty, approximately 25 research associates and visiting scientists, and 25 emeritus, adjunct, and affiliate faculty. The core missions of the department are supported by a professional and dedicated team of 10 staff members.
