Materials Science & Engineering

MSE Research

Our graduate and undergraduate students, together with outstanding faculty and technical staff, conduct research in a variety of areas. Many of the research topics are interdisciplinary, with participation from other engineering, basic science, and medical disciplines.

Areas of current research strength include biomaterials, biomimetics, ceramics, composites, durability, electronic and optical materials, materials characterization, magnetic materials, materials chemistry, metals and alloys, polymers, semiconductors, and surface science.

In addition to state funding, we had grants, contract, and other research funding exceeding $3.5 million during the last academic year, and all of our graduate students, including those in the MS program, are financially supported during their studies.
