More about the group:

This affinity group holds space for folks who self-identify as BIPOC, including Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Brown, Asian & Pacific Islander, Mixed & Multiracial folks.  Our general goals/intentions for our space:

  • Offer mutual support
  • Build community and create space to connect around hobbies/interests
  • Provide resources and self-development opportunities for members

We also encourage our BIPOC community members to join our email listserv to stay in touch!  We will be regrouping at least once over the summer to plan for next year – RSVP if you are interested in joining these community efforts!

The Black Graduation Committee would like to invite you to the 2021 Black Graduation Ceremony!

Since June of 1997, the Black Graduation Ceremony has been a signature event celebrating the uncompromising fortitude of University of Washington’s graduating class of Black students. Students, friends, and families attend the ceremony in anticipation of bearing witness to poignant speeches from speakers and ethereal renditions of the Black National Anthem.

Similarly, to last year, our circumstances have required us to get creative in hosting a virtual ceremony, but the integrity, meaning and beauty of the ceremony is as strong as ever. With that said, we invite you to save the date for our 2021 virtual Black Graduation Ceremony!

Virtual Ceremony Details

Date: Friday, June 18, 2021

Time: 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Theme: Black Royalty

For more information, go to:

https://www.washington.edu/omad/black-graduation-ceremony/

This ceremony is representative of and affirms the identities of all African, African American and African diasporic communities and cultures.

The Black Grad Planning Committee seeks input from graduating students on what date would be best for the ceremony. Moreover, they would also love input on what this year’s theme could be too.

Note: This is for self-identified students who intend to participate in Black Graduation this year.

At your earliest convenience please  fill out the Black Grad Event Poll; this form will remain open until Tuesday, February 23rd!

In this extraordinary year the U.W. Q center is opening up our Lav Grad  ALL 2020 two-spirit, LGBTQIA+ college and high school graduates! We want to celebrate you!

The ceremony is FREE for graduates to participate and will be live-streamed on YouTube for your community to witness and celebrate you.  Registration was due June 2nd, if you missed it email them immediately: tinyurl.com/2020LAVGRAD
