-- Center Director Dr. Peter Milgrom will address the International Conference on Novel Anti-caries and Remineralizing Agents (ICNARA 2), to be held in Viña del Mar, Chile on Jan 3-5, 2012.
In his invited paper, he will speak on clinical research on xylitol and other polyols. Papers from the conference will be published in Advances in Dental Research. Dr. Milgrom and the center have conducted ground breaking research on the application of xylitol as a caries preventive in low income populations.

-- Dr. Milgrom will also address the Joint Meeting of Amerian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and American Association of Orthodontists , in San Marco, FL, Jan 27-29, 2012.

"Xylitol Pediatric Topical Oral Syrup to Prevent Dental Caries: A Double-blind Randomized Clinical Trial of Efficacy", a publication resulting from the HRSA/MCHB funded research project(R40 MC 03622) - "Xylitol For Acute Otitis Media and Early Childhood Caries" - was awarded the prestigious IADR (International Association of Dental Research) Aubrey Sheiham Award (2010) for Distinguished Research in Dental Public Health Sciences.
This award recognizes a single research paper published between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009, in the field of dental public health; both applied and basic research papers.

A new dentistry building means a new world of care for Washington kids

The new Washington Dental Service Building for Early Childhood Oral Health, headed by Dr. Joel Berg, chair of the UW Department of Pediatric Dentistry and director of dentistry at Seattle Children’s Hospital, will merge the services and staff of the current UW Pediatric Dentistry Clinic and the Seattle Children’s Dental Clinic in order to improve oral health care for young children.

Berg also anticipates the Center will be teaming with UW dental professor Dr. Peter Milgrom following his groundbreaking research on the dental bacteria–fighting sugar substitute Xylitol.
