The Northwest Center to Reduce Oral Health Disparities (NCROHD) is soliciting applications for a developmental research project(s) consistent with the overall theme of NCROHD and the conceptual model of Patrick and colleagues (BMC Oral Health, 2006 6:[Suppl I]:S4). This funding opportunity is available to University of Washington faculty.
Results of the proposed research should lead to a large intervention study aimed at reducing oral health disparities in those at high risk for dental, oral and/or craniofacial conditions or diseases including racial/ethnic minorities, low-income pregnant women or mothers, low-income children, or children with special health care needs. A broad array of types of projects are acceptable and include developmental research in preparation for comparative effectiveness and other clinical research as well as behavioral and social science intervention studies.
Potential applicants should review the NCROHD’s conceptual model and focus on macro, community, interpersonal, and/or individual social or cultural determinants of oral health disparities. Some examples of these determinants include barriers to dental care, fear of dental procedures, diet-related policies, use of new technologies to promote oral health and oral health care, health literacy.
