Program

A mentor is an individual who has made a personal commitment to advance a chosen field by facilitating other individuals' careers through guidance, wisdom and expertise

Mission Statement: To create a mutually beneficial relationship between mentor and mentee, thus enabling the field of Nanotechnology to build a pool of talent to enhance Nanotechnology's impact on society.

The Nanotechnology Mentorship Program was Developed in the fall of 2001 in cooperation with The Center for Nanotechnology and Center for Workforce Development. Its primary objective is to serve the student population through positive social, profes sional, and academic networking, occupational guidance, student retention, informational programs and providing students with positive role models. In addition, the mentorship program serves a diverse student population including graduate students from nine interdisciplinary fields. Students are encouraged to participate in the multi-faceted aspects of the program, which are comprised of the mentor and mentee relationship, industry speakers and department luncheons.

Program Events

  • "Nanotech Day" - includes a panel discussion from industry and academia on current topics, interests, ethics and research projects
  • Lunchtime Speakers - In collaboration with the Nanotechnology Student Association there will be between two to three lunchtime discussions with industry and academic leaders
  • Quarterly "Meet and Greet" between mentor and mentee, which serves as a social function that initiates the relationship between the mentorship program participants.
