Metadata (Data about data or how the map was made)

The Western Harvest Mouse prefers dense vegetation (grass, weeds),usually near water. Typical habitats are marshes, meadows, ditch banks, boundaries of irrigated fields, brushy borders of streams and lakes, shrubby borders of wheat fields, fence rows, and roadside weeds. In the hotter, drier parts of eastern Washington, they seem limited to the margins of major water courses. Soil type is not a factor.

All steppe zones were core when they occurred in the Columbia Basin. For all but the Central Arid Steppe, agriculture, water/wetlands, and non-forested, except sparse vegetation, were good habitat. In the Central Arid Steppe, irrigated agriculture and water/wetlands were good.
