the Ohop Valley Creek.
NatureMapping provides an opportunity for citizens to observe, monitor, and inventory wildlife and their habitats. Volunteers are needed for the Ohop Valley Creek Project.
Data will be
collected before, during, and after the Ohop Valley Creek restoration. The South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement
Group (SPSSEG), the Nisqually Tribe and its partners will use the NatureMapping data to evaluate their
efforts to create suitable habitat for native wildlife. The SPSSEG will be redirecting the Ohop
Valley Creek, which has been converted into an irrigation ditch, back to its
original meandering pathway through the
Six “before” fieldtrips have been conducted - (July, October, December 2008 and March, June 2009) - read more. The map outlines the area of the restoration project.
October 18 is the next field trip which will be after the initial restoration has begun. It should be a very interesting fieldtrip with open areas to look for mammal tracks, which has been difficult in the tall grass.

Participants will need to bring water and wear appropriate shoes and clothes. NatureTracker data collection devices will be provided. (Previous NatureMapping experience is helpful, but is not required to participate in this fieldtrip.
The fieldtrip will be done outdoors in all weather conditions. Terrain will be uneven and includes wetlands and grasslands.
