Moving from activities to field research, NatureMapping is a tool for students and citizens to use to help determine a healthy future for fish and wildlife through the use of sound scientific techniques.  Classroom and field work will include the use of maps, wildlife identification tips, habitat coding, building a search image, tracking and data collection procedures.

Nearshore - Training the Trainers

Please join us for an exciting new training on the NatureMapping Nearshore Module. This protocol enables citizens of all ages to get engaged and make a difference by monitoring intertidal species in their local community. This one-day facilitator training will provide the tools necessary to help you engage your volunteers and/or students in this exciting program!

Please feel free to invite one or more of your staff to attend and become trained facilitators in this University of Washington and Department of Fish and Wildlife biodiversity monitoring program. Please register for this free workshop! Clock hours available, and lunch provided.

Two workshops will be held:
Seattle Aquarium: Tuesday, October 27, 2009, 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
Port Townsend Marine Science Center: Tuesday, November 10, 2009, 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.

NatureMapping for Beaches

Educator Workshop

Sat. & Sun., February 27-28, 2010
9:00-4:00 each day

$70 per participant

This workshop will provide formal & non-formal educators with the skills needed to aid learners in the NatureMapping process with a focus on the beach protocol. The basic data collection and monitoring techniques are all included, plus activities to engage learners in the process. This two-day workshop also includes time spent in the field applying the NatureMapping process. It is open to formal and non-formal educators.

This series of hands-on trainings and workshops focused on the wildlife and plant ecology of the Pacific Northwest will prepare you to share your knowledge and enthusiasm about nature with others. It is open to formal
