Upcoming NatureMapping Workshops

Moving from activities to field research, NatureMapping is a tool for students and citizens to use to help determine a healthy future for fish and wildlife through the use of sound scientific techniques.  Classroom and field work will include the use of maps, wildlife identification tips, habitat coding, building a search image, tracking and data collection procedures.


Tacoma Nature Center

NatureMapping for Educators

July 14-15, 2009
$70 per participant
9:00am—5:00pm each day

This workshop will provide formal and non-formal educators with the skills needed to aid learners in the NatureMapping process.  The basic data collection and monitoring techniques of are all included, plus
activities to engage learners in the process.  This two-day workshop also includes time spent in the field applying the NatureMapping process.  It is not open to non-educators.

Michigan - Marquette

Training the Trainers

July 24-26, 2009

This workshop is for professionals and teachers who want in depth training on the NatureMapping protocols and technological tools. This 2.5-day workshop also includes time spent in the field learning how to journal, the use of Naturetracker software on a handheld PC, data analysis and how to design a project. There will be a follow-up two-day workshop for review and more detailed fieldwork in the fall.

Data Collection and Monitoring

This workshop is for citizens interested in using the NatureMapping process to keep track of wildlife in their backyard, local parks and forests, or any other natural area. This hands-on environmental learning workshop helps people take the next step after learning to enjoy wildlife.
