How to Apply
Requirements for application
Our three-year fellowship seeks physicians who will have completed two to three years of training in an ACGME approved pediatric residency program or who are ECFMG certified and have completed all three steps of the USMLE.
Application process
Our fellowship program participates in the ERAS universal application process and the National Residency Matching Program. Please visit the ERAS Web site at www.aamc.org/services/eras/ for an application, information about our program, and important deadlines. The NRMP Web site is at www.nrmp.org/fellow/index.html.
The following information should be uploaded into the ERAS program:
- Completed online application
- Current photograph
- Personal statement
- At least three letters of recommendation
- Dean's letter or MSPE (Medical School Performance Evaluation)
- Medical school transcript
- Parts 1, 2 and 3 of the USMLE
- If a graduate of a medical school outside the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico, a valid ECFMG certificate or one that does not expire prior to the start of the fellowship
- If a not a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident, a copy of current, appropriate visa
The ERAS deadline for completed applications is May 31, 2010 (for positions starting 1 July 2011). Applicants are advised to apply early and complete their applications early due to limited availability of interviews.
The minimum application materials needed to be considered for an interview include:
- Application
- Personal statement
- 3 Letters of Recommendation
- USMLE results
- ECFMG certificate (if applicable)
Applicants are advised to access their file frequently to ensure timely submission of all components of their application. Additional application materials will be requested upon extending an invitation for interview. A personal interview is required for applicants who will be ranked for matching, and the Division of Neonatology can offer up a one night stay at a nearby hotel and up to $250 of the cost of the flight.

International Medical Graduates
We are accredited by the Accredited Council for Graduate
Medical Education (ACGME), which requires all International Medical Graduate
applicants to be ECFMG certified and have completed the first two steps (J-1
visa) or all three steps (H1-B visa) of the USMLE before they apply.

Visa Policy
The visa policy for the
University of Washington School of Medicine requires foreign nationals
to obtain a J-1 visa sponsored by the
ECFMG. The University of Washington
Medical Center does not generally provide H1-B sponsorship unless otherwise
ineligible for a J-1 visa. H1-B visas are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and
are subject to approval by the University of Washington GME Office and the
