  • Diabetic kidney disease: cellular and molecular mechanisms, clinical research in novel therapeutic agents
  • Nutrition: cellular and molecular mechanisms of dietary protein-induced kidney damage, clinical research on optimal dietary interventions
  • Hypertension: clinical research in defining selection of therapeutic combinations
  • Renal vascular disease: randomized clinical trial of medical versus interventional strategy

Current Research

  • Investigating if treatment with mycophenolate mofetil will decrease the levels of antidonor antibodies in the highly sensitized patient on the kidney transplant waiting list
  • Investigating if treatment with rituximab will decrease the levels of antidonor antibodies in the highly sensitized patient on the kidney transplant waiting list
  • Evaluating new markers of kidney injury in liver transplant recipients
  • Donor awareness in the Native American population
  • The role of HPV in the development of squamous cell cancer in kidney transplant recipients
