Neuroscience Focus Groups: Cell and Molecular Neuroscience
Our research goal is to understand the molecular and cellular basis for neuron communication. As neurons are specialized cells that transmit chemical and electrical signals, the speed and efficiency of signal propagation in neural circuits are crucial for all aspects of life and behavior. Disruption of information flow in neural circuits is responsible for numerous neurological diseases and mental illnesses. To investigate the principles that neurons use to process and deliver information, we utilize a combination of genetic, biochemical, imaging, and electrophysiological techniques to explore the following areas of neuroscience; 1) molecular mechanisms
for synaptic communication; 2) structural and function plasticity in neural circuits; and 3) the repair of damaged circuits through synaptic engineering.
