Neuroscience Focus Group: Sensory Systems
I use psychophysical techniques to study human color vision in order to link perception to the underlying neural substrate, from retina to cortex. At a general level, my work aims to understand how signals from rod and cone photoreceptors interact in the multiple parallel pathways that mediate human color vision. Specific areas of ongoing research include rod influence on color appearance and chromatic discrimination and the characteristics and neural processing of colors, such as brown, that are dark relative to their surroundings. We are investigating how an object’s color appearance is influenced by both direct photoreceptor stimulation and by the context in which that object appears.
