New Mail Settings for Campus and Home

Email configuration changes fight spam

The UW must require more secure email submission methods to restrict the flow of spam and viruses from infected computers. Unless we curtail the flow of spam from the UW, we risk having legitimate messages blocked by destinations like Hotmail and AOL.

Beginning August 9, providing your UW NetID and password will be required to send email through the UW's central email server. You may need to change the configuration of your email program to be able to continue to send email after August 9. Keep reading to see if you will be affected and what you need to do.

If someone else manages your computer
If another person installs and configures the software on your computer or if your computer is centrally managed (such as through the Nebula system), talk to your technical support person. Do not attempt to make any changes yourself.

If you manage your own computer
