A number of different opportunities exist through both the Department of Neurology and the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. Several clinics are devoted to Multiple Sclerosis patients, and a number of different disciplines are involved in making these a valuable learning experience. The VA has an ongoing telemedicine venture that is planning to begin field trials on MS patients, while physicians from the UW are currently evaluating a computerized testing battery. In combination with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, the UW has completed a Phase 2 trial of stem cell transplantation for MS. The UW participates in a number of clinical studies and drug trials, and there are numerous opportunities to be involved in clinical or basic science research if there is interest. MS clinics occur several days per week at the VA and UW medical centers.
