Electrodiagnostics (EMG/NCV) Rotation Information
The rotation on electromyography involves the resident in a graded fashion in the performance of studies for clinical diagnosis. After assimilation of basic material and observation of studies, the residents conduct the studies under supervision. The goal of this didactic and first hand experience is to develop an understanding of the clinical usefulness and limitations of such techniques, and to be able to interpret EMG reports in the context of the clinical presentation. After completion of the rotation, which is usually for two months, residents can continue to participate in these activities during subsequent rotations if interested in a more extensive experience. Other areas of electrodiagnosis are available in the laboratory of Dr. John Oakley and Dr. Cheng-Hakimian at the University of Washington Hospital, including dermatomal, somatosensory, brainstem, and visual evoked potentials.
