RESIDENCY PROGRAM
UW School of Medicine and Neurology
Founded in 1946 and located in the heart of Seattle, the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) provides an ideal academic environment for advanced clinical training and research in neurology. Our hospitals are modern, attractive and very busy. Every year, the UW Medical Center and UWSOM receive top honors in USNews and World Report’s “Best Hospitals,” “Top Medical Schools – Primary Care” and “Top Medical Schools – Research” features. The UW Medical Center has also earned the esteemed Magnet Hospital rating for nursing.

The UWSOM is a regional institution serving the states of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (the “WWAMI” region). The medical school is located on the University of Washington campus, and also has teaching sites for medical students and residents in more than 100 towns and cities across the region. It is nationally known for its commitment to community service

through the volunteer activities of its students, staff, faculty and alumni. The University is home to an outstanding community of basic neuroscientists, and the Interdisciplinary Neurobiology Training Program is among the best in the country. The clinical programs with which neurology regularly interacts, including Neurosurgery, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Rehabilitation Medicine, are exceptionally strong.

The Department of Neurology has been a long-standing center of clinical and academic excellence and has a mission that includes meeting the healthcare needs of patients with neurological issues, advancing knowledge through research in the clinical and basic neurosciences, and training the next generation of neurologists through the residency programs. Through its clinical facilities at the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center (Children’s), the Department of Neurology offers comprehensive consultation, evaluation and treatment services for adults and children with neurological disorders.
