Living with a Brain Tumor:
Help with deficits that may occur

The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program is a special program within UWMC's Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. The health care professionals on this team (physicians, nurses, speech physical and occupational therapists, neuropsychologists, social workers and vocational rehabilitation specialists) have expertise in helping persons who are experiencing physical, cognitive, communication, emotional and social problems as a result of neurological injury, such as a brain tumor. The team works collaboratively with patients to assist them in maximizing their abilities (e.g., cognitive, physical) so as to live as independent and productive a life as possible. Each patient's program is individually designed to address his/her specific needs and concerns. If referred to the Brain Injury Program, you will typically first meet with the physiatrist, the Rehabilitation Medicine physician, and the neuropsychologist who will talk with you about your goals and what treatments (e.g., physical therapy, speech therapy, psychotherapy, vocational assistance) will be most helpful to you.
