IntroductionThe Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington is one of the largest academic neurosurgery programs in the nation. The Department is known for its research and clinical programs which are the primary responsibilty of its faculty. Neurological Surgery residents make important contributions to both patient care and research. Our clinical faculty are internationally recognized experts in neurosurgical disorders and diseases, providing patients with world-class healthcare. This expertise carries over to our training program, where these individuals mentor neurosurgeons of the future and conduct basic science and clinical research in the neurosciences. This leadership in medicine has resulted in many of our faculty members becoming chairmen of neurosurgery programs throughout the United States. Along with our clinicians, our research faculty are leaders in the neurosciences. Fundamental principles in human language and memory, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, blood-brain barrier and cerebrovascular physiology, neuro-anatomy, and trauma have been discovered by these scientists. In addition, their guidance has resulted in many of our residents and fellows being awarded research grants and fellowship opportunities. Introduction | Faculty | Residents | Fellows |
