Marcelo D. Vilela, M.D.
Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr. Vilela is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine and an Attending Neurosurgeon at Harborview Medical Center. He received his medical training in Brazil from the Federal University of Minas Gerais from 1989-1995, where he was in the top four students in his class.

After completing his residency in Neurosurgery at the Hospital Evangelico de Belo Horizonte June, 2000, he came to the University of Washington in Seattle from July 2000 through June of 2003, completing fellowships in General and Trauma Neurosurgery, Complex Spinal Surgery and Instrumentation, Skull Base Surgery, and Cerebrovascular Surgery.

The following two years he spent in Brazil as a staff neurosurgeon at the Mater Dei Hospital in Belo Horizonte (from July 2003 through December 2005), and now has returned to Seattle to join our Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington.


Patient Care
Dr. Vilela's clinical practice focuses primarily on complex spinal surgery, head trauma surgery and general neurosurgery.
