Dr. Richard G. Ellenbogen, Professor and Chairman of the UW Department of Neurological Surgery announced receipt today of a 3 year $350,000 pledge from the Integra Foundation to establish the Integra Foundation Endowed Professorship for Neurotrauma at the University of Washington. The Foundation initiated its pledge with a $115,000 check. The purpose of the Endowment is to advance research in head and spinal cord injuries, particularly as they affect children. The focus is on both national and international aspects of neurotrauma research and treatment. The Integra Foundation is dedicated to advancing innovative medical and healthcare research and education, primarily in the areas of neurosurgery, reconstructive and general surgery, that lead to improved outcome and quality of life for patients and their communities. It is funded by Integra LifeSciences Corporation, a world leader in developing and marketing high quality surgical instruments, as well as innovative devices and bio-products, for use in neurosurgery, reconstructive and general surgery and soft tissue repair. Their website address is: www.integra-foundation.org. In receiving the gift, Dr. Ellenbogen noted “Neurotrauma is a public health epidemic in America and around the world. This generous endowment will promote future medical advances for children and adults with life threatening head and spine injuries, as well as sustaining the superb regional and national neurotrauma care currently delivered at the University of Washington, and Harborview Medical Center. This gift will hopefully have a beneficial effect on national and international neurotrauma practices for many years to come. Simply put, this gift will save lives.” Contact information:
