Chiari Malformation

Chiari ("kee-are-ee") malformation is a disorder of the brain where the cerebellum is herniated through the foramen magnum and into the spinal canal. The foramen magnum is the hole in your skull that the brainstem and spinal cord exit.

Our UW Medicine Chiari Malformation Clinic is headed by Richard G. Ellenbogen, MD, FACS, Professor and Chairman UW Neurological Surgery, Chief of Neurosurgery at Harborview Medical Center, and Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle, Washington; the UW Chiari Clinic utilizes world-class doctors, nurses, patient care coordinators and facilities to provide exceptional treatment for these disorders.
