1) Nest # H02-PEAP, 11 Oct 2002, 17:12:05 to 17:15:59. Cabanas San Isidro, Napo Province, 5 km west of Cosanga, 2050 m elev. One nestling, estimated age 13 days old. Female arrives to deliver a cicada (Order: Homoptera/ Family: Cicadidae) to the nestling. The nestling appears agitated and will not receive prey item and female eats it herself. After nestling defecates, female cleans feces from rim of nest while nestling continues to act agitated. The female leaves and the male arrives with an unidentified prey item. Nestling still does not beg or receive food. Due to the extreme tipping of the nest (caused by natural mechanical disturbances to substrate several days prior) the nestling appears unbalanced in the nest and soon falls backwards out of the nest. Male peers downward at the nestling then leaves. The nestling was returned to the nest the following morning, having spent the night on the ground below the nest. It fell out a second time, and eventually drowned in a small puddle of water under the nest. See Greeney et al. 2004 for details.
2) Nest # H02-PEAP, 9 Oct 2002, 10:15:44 to 10:16:23. Cabanas San Isidro, Napo Province, 5 km west of Cosanga, 2050 m elev. One nestling, estimated 11 days old. Male arrives to deliver unidentified arthropod to nestling. Nestling begs and receives food. Male pecks sharply several times at nestling's head, presumably attempting to remove ectoparasites. Then male "sharp probes" into nest lining once, also presumably removing parasites from nest.
3) Nest # H02-PEAP, 7 Oct 2002, 09:58:00 to 09:58:31. Cabanas San Isidro, Napo Province, 5 km west of Cosanga, 2050 m elev. One nestling, estimated 9 days old. Male arrives to deliver unidentified arthropod to nestling. Nestling begs and receives food. Male gets on top of nestling to brood.
4) Nest # H02-PEAP, 7 Oct 2002, 09:59:57 to 10:00:22. Cabanas San Isidro, Napo Province, 5 km west of Cosanga, 2050 m elev. One nestling, estimated 9 days old. Male is on nest brooding the nestling. He appears to see a prey item away from the nest and leaves, returning promptly to feed an unidentified arthropod to the nestling. He pecks sharply at the nestling's head, presumably removing an ectoparasite. He then gets on top of the nestling to resume brooding.
5) Nest # H02-PEAP, 7 Oct 2002, 10:03:04 to 10:03:20. Cabanas San Isidro, Napo Province, 5 km west of Cosanga, 2050 m elev. One nestling, estimated 9 days old. Male is on nest brooding the nestling. He stands suddenly and preens his breast briefly. The nestling can be seen preening itself under the male. The male pecks once at the lining of the nest then resumes breeding.
6) Nest # H02-PEAP, 7 Oct 2002, 10:19:34 to 10:19:50. Cabanas San Isidro, Napo Province, 5 km west of Cosanga, 2050 m elev. One nestling, estimated 9 days old. Male is on the nest brooding the nestling. He stands and peers into the nest, then "rapid probes" into the nest lining by thrusting his bill in and out of the lining in a rapid sewing-machine-like fashion. He then continues brooding.
7) Nest # H02-PEAP, 7 Oct 2002, 09:46:39 to 09:47:28. Cabanas San Isidro, Napo Province, 5 km west of Cosanga, 2050 m elev. One nestling, estimated 9 days old. Male arrives and delivers unidentified arthropod prey to the nestling. He begins to settle down to brood the nestling but then leaves the nest. The nestling settles gradually into the nest again. The male returns and feeds the nestling another unidentified arthropod. He makes a single one-note call just before leaving the nest the second time.
