Abstract:

The Golden-crowned Flycatcher occurs from Panama to Argentina, in foothills and montane forests at elevations ranging from 900-2500 m. While evidence of breeding has been reported from several localities (Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru), the nest of this common species is surprisingly poorly know. It has been described by various authors as a cup shaped nest, composed primarily of moss, and situated in a variety of situations. These include tree cavities, holes in vertical surfaces, cliff faces, and natural crevices. Clutch size is generally reported as 2 eggs, but there is at least one published account of a three egg clutch and our own observations suggest that (in Ecuador) clutch size is often greater than 2. There is no published information on incubation or nestling care.
