The Northwest Regional Perinatal Program, in conjunction with the Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center and the University of Washington School of Medicine, is currently offering a variety of Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) courses. Developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association, NRP is an educational program that introduces the concepts and basic skills of neonatal resuscitation. Anyone responsible for any part of a neonatal resuscitation is an appropriate candidate for an NRP course. Completion of the program does not imply that an individual has the competence to perform neonatal resuscitation.

All courses are held at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center new Sandpoint facility at 6901 Sandpoint Way N.E. (1.5 miles northeast of the Hospital), and require extensive home study of the current Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 4th edition (revised 2000). A multimedia CD-ROM is also available to complement home study. Courses include classroom discussion and practice sessions, followed by written examinations and skills testing. Upon successful completion of the program, participants are eligible to receive a course completion card, CEARP, and/or CME category II credits.

Since resuscitation responsibilities vary among health care providers, participants may chose to work through only those lessons appropriate to their level of responsibility. Participants who wish to complete the minimum requirement needed for a course completion card should call 206-987-5321 for further information.
