Description:
The University of Washington Center for Drug Addiction Research brings together investigators studying various actions of drugs of abuse (opiates, cocaine, amphetamine, cannabis, MDMA). This is a multidisciplinary group working in the departments of Pharmacology, Physiology & Biophysics, Anesthesiology, Biochemistry, Psychology and Psychiatry. Ongoing research activities within the Center are diverse and include molecular, genetic, biophysical, animal behavioral, and human clinical studies. The Center organizes the regular communication of research results, facilitates research collaborations, and enhances research training in this area by sponsoring monthly research meetings, inviting distinguished extramural scientists to present seminars on campus, hosting critical discussion of published literature (journal clubs), and facilitating the research training of young investigators.
The Center activities are open to all members of the university interested in drug abuse research.
The NIDA-Center maintains a shared animal behavioral testing facility as part of its Behavioral Core. The facility in room C609 HSB includes equipment for assessing CPP, nociception, locomotor activity, and operant behavior.
