Friday Luncheon
Two awards will be announced at the luncheon session on Friday, October 16. Following the luncheon, the award winners will present breakout sessions on their award winning programs.
The Richard W. Clark Award for Exemplary Partner School Work and Nicholas Michelli Award for Advancing Social Justice were established in 2005 to recognize and honor outstanding work by NNER settings toward advancing these two critical areas within the Agenda for Education in a Democracy. The NNER is committed to simultaneous renewal of schools and the institutions that prepare our educators and, to promote this work, the Network also understands the importance of acknowledging and disseminating outstanding efforts and accomplishments.
The Richard W. Clark Award for Exemplary Partner School Work
Richard W. Clark has nurtured NNER partner schools for many years through his research, writing, guidance, and presence in the NNER settings. Each year since the initiation of the award, the NNER recognizes school/university partnerships that advance their work toward the four partner school functions through strong institutional collaboration. Recipients include Grover Cleveland Middle School, Montclair, NJ; Rishel Middle School, Denver CO; Paxton Keeley Elementary School, Columbia, MO; and Ho‘okulāiwi Partnership, HI.The Nicholas Michelli Award for Advancing Social Justice
Nicholas Michelli has led the NNER efforts to advance social justice in our schools and universities throughout the NNER. His leadership in the policy arena and commitment to implementing structures and processes that promote social justice are essential to the NNER. His work on every facet of access to knowledge and inclusion of diverse voices in our work models the ideals of democracy. Award recipients include the Hawaii setting; Shepard Symposium for Social Justice, WY; Pershing Elementary School and the Lexington community, NE; and Chicago Teacher Education Pipeline’s Little Village Education partnership, IL.
Saturday Luncheon
The recipient of the John L Goodlad Award will be a keynote speaker at the Saturday luncheon. Dr. Goodlad will be present to give concluding remarks.
The John I. Goodlad Award for Advancing the Agenda for Democratic Schools is awarded to a current NNER member who is showing outstanding leadership in advancing the NNER agenda.
