Jim Bane, MD, the former medical director of corrections health at the Multnomah County Health Department in Oregon, has many years of experience using detoxification protocols for opiate users in the correctional setting, including the use of buprenorphine for safer and more effective detoxification. Dr. Bane has explored the use of buprenorphine treatment as a bridge at discharge to community providers to try to reduce relapse and recidivism rates.
