Fire Emission Production Simulator (FEPS)
The Fire Emission Production Simulator (FEPS) is a user-friendly computer program designed for scientists and resource managers with some working knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications. The software manages data concerning consumption, emissions and heat release characteristics of prescribed burns and wildland fires, including the amount and fuel moisture of various fuel strata, hourly weather, and a number of other factors. FEPS can be used for most forest, shrub, and grassland types in North America and the world. The program allows users to produce reasonable results with very little information by providing default values and calculations, and advanced users can customize the data they provide to produce very refined results. The FEPS version 1.1 includes the fuels data from the most popular fuelbeds in the Fuel Characteristic Classification System and accepts data exported from FOFEM and Consume.

FIREHouse is a collaboration between the Fire and Environmental Research Applications Team (FERA) of the USDA Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station, Pacific Wildland Fire Sciences Laboratory; the University of Washington; the National Park Service; the Bureau of Land Management – Alaska Fire Service; the US Fish and Wildlife Service; and the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII). The NBII is a broad, collaborative program that provides increased access to data and information on the nation’s biological resources. Funding for FIREHouse has been provided by the Joint Fire Science Program (JFSP) and NBII. FIREHouse is coordinating efforts with the Fire Research and Management Exchange System (FRAMES) project team. Content on FIREHouse will provide substantial contributions to the Northwest Fire Science Portal and the Alaska Fire Science Portal.
