Family Group Conferencing

Evaluation of the Connected and Cared For Project will explore the impact of FGCs on youth ages 11-18 in Behavioral Rehabilitative Services (BRS) placements. Of particular interest is the effectiveness of the model for improving outcomes related to family involvement and stable placements for this population. The first phase of the evaluation (Year 1) was started in January 2002 and is a retrospective evaluation of conferences conducted between 1998 and 2001. The second phase (Years 2-3) will examine the outcomes of 70 conferences delivered over the course of the next two years and combines case record reviews, as well as surveys and interviews with youth, parents, BRS case managers and social workers. For this challenging population of youth, the evaluation will examine the potential for FGCs to promote family involvement and less-restrictive placements.
