Beginning in 2008, OACIS has inspired high school students in Washington State to engage imaginatively in science and math using the the lens of the seas.
We assess the effectiveness of our program using a range of tools. We conduct pre-and post surveys with students and teachers, meeting with teachers and fellows, our training workshops, and final essays from fellows. We have an outside research group assess our program.
Our past evaluations of OACIS show that OACIS improves students’ abilities in math and science and increases their interest in the marine sciences and in the health of our planet or whatever they have shown.
