Please join us for "Preventing Obesity in an Obesogenic Society: Targeting the Adolescent Population" to be held on October 29th 2002 in Seattle at the Urban Horticulture Center.

The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) is hosting this program at the Center for Urban Horticulture, Seattle, Washington; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 pm. It will examine the obesity epidemic currently confronting our nation and the multitude of factors that contribute to this public health crisis.

The keynote speaker will be Marion Nestle, PhD, MPH. Dr. Nestle is the author of Food Politics: How the Food Industry Influences Nutrition and Health, and coauthor of the article Halting the obesity epidemic: a public health policy approach. Her research focuses on analysis of the scientific, social, cultural, and economic factors that influence the development, implementation, and acceptance of federal dietary guideline policies. Other speakers will discuss issues relevant to multiple disciplines, including medicine, nursing, dietetics, teaching, and health education.

The increasing prevalence of obesity in our society affects the work of so many professions that topics and speakers have been selected to benefit physicians, nurses, dietitians, teachers, health educators.

NOTE: A SOPHE one-year membership is $30.

Continuing education credits will be offered for CHES, RD, and CEARP.
