The UWMC Provider Recognition Committee commends and congratulates Josh Kilgore, MD for being selected as a recipient of the April Medical Staff TLC Award.

Dr. Klgore was nominated by a colleague who stated:
"Dr. Josh Kilgore, an OB-GYN resident, has demonstrated consistent, outstanding patient care and clinical performance since entering his residency here at the UW even during the most dificult and challenging circumstances.

Recently he cared for a young woman who experienced an unexpected, premature delivery at home during the middle of the night. Neither the patient, nor her family had realized she was pregnant. Medical challenges encountered in the ER were compounded by the patient's and her extended family members' emotional states.

Dr. Kilgore heard about the patient in the ER. He offered his assistance before an official consultation was requested. Working with the team of providers in the ER, Josh delivered his obstetric and gynecologic expertise and care with sensitivity, compassion, and respect for the parent's religious and cultural beliefs and practices and helped with the eventual decision to take the patient to the OR."

This is one of numerous comments by patients and staff about Josh's kindness, professionalism, and dedication to the best possible care for women. He is an outstanding example of dedication to excellence. UWMC is proud to have him as member of the Medicine residency program and a member of our patient care team.

Along with five other UW physicians, Dr Elizabeth Swisher, an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology's Division of Gynecologic Oncology, will be featured this coming Friday, December 19th, on a KING-5 TV special, Cancer Breakthroughs Head to Toe, from 8 pm to 9 pm.

Dr. Swisher will be highlighting research advances on genetics and the origins of ovarian cancer.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology's David Eschenbach, MD, and Barbara Goff, MD were among six UW physicians recently recognized in Women's Health in a feature article on the nation's best medical doctors for women.

Dr. Eschenbach is a Professor (Women's Health Division) and the departmental Chair; Dr. Goff is a Professor and the Director of Ob/Gyn's Division of Gynecologic Oncology. In addition to their clinical and surgical loads, both have a longstanding history of important research in their fields.

Congratulations to Dr Suzanne Peterson, who in March of 2008 received a local grant from the UW School of Medicine, funded by the Institute for Translational Health Sciences Center for Scientific Review in support of her research project entitled "Genetic Susceptibility to Preterm Labor in Mother-Infant Pairs".

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is pleased to congratulate Clerkship Director Dr Vicki Mendiratta, who was the recipient of a Service Excellence Award for Winter 2008 in the recent UWMC Recognition Program.
