Hospital & Clinic Information:
Approximately 1400 babies are born each year in Kadlec Medical Center’s family centered birthing suites. Adjoining the Birth Center is the area’s sole NICU which can accommodate 12 patients. The hospital subscribes to the Planetree model of patient-centered care. Students will precept with six area physicians who attend to approximately 2000 births per year. Primary location will be housed in the Kadlec Medical Clinic’s Associated Physicians for Women’s office. Student will spend 2 days per week in clinic, two days in labor & delivery and one day in the OR.
Housing & Transportation:
Housing is a one bedroom fully furnished/stocked apartment approximately five miles from the hospital and clinic. It includes community courtyard, washer/dryer, and fitness area. Apartment is approximately 2 blocks from the Columbia River and paved green belt, mountain bikes are available for rent. Public transportation is nearby, however, it is recommended student have transportation. Bicycling is encouraged!
First Day of Rotation:
Attend Orientation at University of Washington Medical Center at 8:30am in BB 667. This will last through mid-day. On the 2nd day of the clerkship, plan to meet Amy Carrasco, Education Director, at 8:30 a.m. in the Education Office at Kadlec Medical Center to obtain badges and safety compliance material. Area Information:
Clerkship is located in Richland, one of the “Tri-Cities” located in central Washington in the Columbia River Valley. A source of pride for the area’s 225,000 residents is the communities’ commitment for running and biking events on the many dedicated trails. In addition, the Columbia River provides plentiful water sport opportunities and is home to annual hydroplane race events.
