The Women’s Clinic is part of the Walla Walla Clinic, a multi specialty group of about 40 physicians serving the Walla Walla Valley. The Women’s Clinic is located next to St. Mary Medical Center and houses five board certified obstetricians and two nurse petitioners. Also on site are mammography and ultrasound as well as a laboratory.
Dr. Kirsten Eberhardt is the site coordinator. Due to the geographic location Walla Walla serves the surrounding rural areas of eastern/ southern Washington and northern Oregon. As the major medical center in this region the doctors of the Women’s Clinic follow high risk obstetrics patients and participate in infertility treatment. The Women’s Clinic in Walla Walla will have four students participate in the educational program each year.
Walla Walla is located at the foot hills of the Blue Mountains in eastern Washington’s wine country. Walla Walla’s downtown has been nominated one of the best for small towns of the United States. Whitman College, Walla Walla Community College and Walla Walla University attract a large spectrum of speakers and performing arts. The nearby downhill ski areas allow for winter sports November through March.

Clinic Milieu:
At the Women’s Clinic we see a wide range of OB/GYN patients. As a group practice the four obstetrical providers work very closely together and we have a Friday morning conference at which complicated cases are discussed and a sign out is given for the on-call physician for the weekend.
The physicians of the Women’s Clinic have busy operating schedules at St Mary Medical Center on Mondays and Thursdays and students will be participating in the Gyn-surgeries on these days. Also on Fridays the physicians of the clinic rotate at the Ambulatory Surgery Center for out patient procedures. This will hopefully give a good overview of the gynecological procedures which all our medical students will be able to participate in.
In the office setting students will be working with our different providers to learn more about different approaches to office gynecology and obstetrics. We would give students the opportunity to access patients and present cases in order to become more familiar with patient history in general as well as allying the knowledge of disease processed in this field.
In our group practice we have about 40-50 deliveries a month which gives great opportunities for students for hands-on obstetrics experiences. As many of the deliveries may occur at night or on weekends we hope to be able to work out a call schedule for each student individually at the beginning of the rotation.
Our goal for our students is to become comfortable in treating gynecological diseases and take care of obstetrical patients so that in the future no matter which specialty they chose they will not be afraid when a pregnant woman walks into their practice.
Extracurricular Activities:
Walla Walla – it is so nice they named it twice. This is really true: the rolling hills of the Palouse, the seven creeks and rivers going through town, the Blue Mountains make for exceptional outdoor activities, especially biking, hiking, camping… More than 100 wineries attract a lot of tourists to this area, who enjoy the downtown with boutiques, coffee shops, and wine tasting rooms. Art and theater are represented in such abundance that one can go to daily activities and would still miss some of the highlights of Walla Walla and its cultural programs.
Weather Trends:
Winters are often cool and there is good downhill skiing in the nearby mountains. Summers are dry and warm, bring your swim suits, enjoy barbeques and running through sprinklers.
