Breast Exam Videos

These videos provided courtesy of Dr. Kristine Calhoun, Assistant Professor in the department of Surgery and our gracious patient volunteer. We acknowledge their invaluable contribution to medical student education.

Part I: Introduction and Explanation (:28, 1 Mb)

The clinical breast exam is an important aspect of routine preventative care of women. It allows an opportunity for screening of asymptomatic women or for the evaluation of women with a breast symptom or complaint. This video demonstrates how to approach the patient and then demonstrates the techniques of a complete breast exam.

Part II: Seated Examination (3:31, 7.8 Mb)

This section of the video demonstrates the seated exam portion of the complete breast exam. The lymph nodes, specifically neck, supraclavicular, and axillary nodes are sequentially examined. This is followed by the breast tissue exam and evaluation for breast symmetry. Feedback is given to the patient.

Part III: Supine Examination (8:26, 18.9 Mb)

This final section of the video demonstrates the supine exam portion of the complete breast exam. The breast tissue including areola and nipple are examined. Two different techniques are reviewed. Feedback is given to the patient and examination is concluded.
