Was this course intellectually stimulating? Did it stretch your thinking? (see above) Why or why not?

I found the course quite stimulating. It had a lot of information relevant to my life.

It made me think very much and use the resources abvailable to me especially the computer which i learn to love so much now.

Widened more horizons, when I thought there wasn't anything there.

Problem solving and design skills challenged me. class discussions were good, although the first section left me confused. I would have liked to stretch my brain in that regard more.

There was so many things to learn, now , the whole structure is more clear to me…

This is too big a subject for me to comment on right now. I'm in a huge life transition/personal transformation.

It was difficult to learn a lot of the material, therefore, it was absolutely necessary to stretch your mind.

What aspects of this course contributed most to your learning?

combination of CD-ROM and lab flexible time schedule

I found the laboratories and the text book great. the challenge questions and uwyl questions were also good at helping me integrate the course material with my other knowledge.

Class discussions, instructor discussions

going online for some tutorials, then from classmates and teacher.

the final project pulling it all together.

The aspect that contributed most to my learning was doing in class work where the instuctor was immediately available if I was having a problem.

What aspects of this course detracted from your learning?

I do not think any part of the course detracted me from learning, i did think evey aspect of it was helpful.

Time constraints

I found it a little frustrating that we often worked in class at the speed of the slowest person. Not that I am a super-speed demon, but the time that was given in general for the class to complete in-class assignments was too long and detracted from the overall amount of content that was able to be presented.

Students that complained about not being spoon fed. I personally think that the people who were the most critical simply lacked self motivation and were unhappy with their own work.

The textbook was not very good. I also think that we needed a bit more hardware (sound cards, etc.) in the classrooms.

My own lack of success with some of the in-class and homework problems. I need to see incremental success to keep my morale high.

What suggestions do you have for improving the course?

Increase the importance of groups and online discussion. I felt as if most of the class didn't think the discussions to be very important. I think that more student interaction would help most people.

establish better writing groups, and change if not working for every one

The course as a whole was excellent and i do not think there is anything lacking. I really get to like the class and it would make me take so classes on line again.

Better book and equipment (speaker...)

Perhaps try to stick more closely to the syllabus.

Longer hours for using computer lab to get assignments done: stay open longer Fri/Sat and add Sunday hours.

Really, if a student knows what's expected of them and the assignments are clear and not overwhelming in length, I believe those factors being present would make the course a better experience.
